CHPCA Celebrates National Carers Day 2017

(April 4, 2017 – Ottawa, ON) The Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association (CHPCA) joins with its partners and people across Canada to celebrate National Carers Day. A Carer (also referred to as a caregiver or family caregiver), is a person who takes on an unpaid caring role for someone who needs help because of a physical or cognitive condition, an injury or a chronic life-limiting illness. There are more than 8 million caregivers in Canada today, and many of them are caring for loved ones at home at the end of life. This year’s theme is “Caring at Home”, and promotes the vital contribution of Canada’s carers, looking after their loved ones at home.

This year, a video statement was release by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in tribute to the millions of carers in Canada. The statement can be viewed at www.carerscanada.ca. You can be a part of our celebration and emphasize the importance of carers all across our nation by raising awareness of Caring at Home. Learn about and share the valuable role carers play by supporting older adults with frailty, individuals with complex chronic disabling conditions and those at end-of-life. You can joining the national conversation by showing your support and recognition of carers who are providing essential care at home on social media using #thxcarers.
